The Road to Intermediate Kayaking

The Road to Intermediate Kayaking, a program designed to elevate your skills and confidence on the water. Perfect for those who have mastered the basics and are ready to tackle new challenges, this program will guide you through the techniques and maneuvers needed to advance your kayaking journey.

  • Highlights

    Duration: 2.5 Days (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon)

    • Friday: 4-hour on-land skills session covering key techniques and strategies.

    • Saturday & Sunday: Full days on the water focusing on skill-building, hands-on practice, and guided instruction.

    Location: Wildwood Outfitters 

    Maximum: 8 participants

    Minimum: 4 participants

    Age: 8 and older (minors must bring an adult).

    Cost: $350 per participant

    Refining Paddle Strokes: Improve efficiency and power for better control.

    • Reading Water: Learn to identify currents, eddies, and the best lines for navigating rapids.

    • Boat Control & Edging: Master techniques to maintain balance and execute precise maneuvers.

    • Ferrying & Attainments: Gain confidence in crossing currents and working your way upstream.

    • Bracing & Rolling: Develop stability and recovery techniques to stay upright and in control.

    • Running Rapids with Confidence: Apply skills in real-time, choosing the best approach for different whitewater features.

    • Safety & River Awareness: Understand hazards, self-rescue techniques, and group communication on the water.

  • What To Bring

    Kayak & Gear – Bring your own whitewater kayak, paddle, spray skirt, PFD, and helmet.

    • Cold Weather Layers – Wetsuit or drysuit, moisture-wicking base layers, and a splash jacket.

    • Footwear – Secure water shoes or neoprene booties (no flip-flops).

    • Personal Safety Gear – Whistle, river knife, and float bags for your kayak.

    • Snacks & Hydration – Plenty of water and high-energy snacks for long days on the river.

    • Camping Gear (if applicable) – Sleeping bag, tent, and personal items for overnight stays.

    • Notebook & Pen – Optional, but helpful for taking notes during the on-land session.

    • A whole bunch of stoke and a readiness to level up your skills!
